Bingo Monopoly
Thursday, April 3rd, 2008Gambling software provider Cryptologic has the potential to be granted a monopoly on the market of online gambling in Holland.
The company was originally based in Canada, and provided software for gambling sites to United States companies. Yet they were forced out of their industry by the increasingly strict policies against online gaming sites operating in the United States.
Now Cryptologic operates out of Ireland, and is providing software to Holland Casino.com, where the gambling is a state-run operation. Should the Dutch government decide to give a license to them for a three year term, essentially the other European gaming contracts would have no place in the market.
The European Union trade policy may wind up with a Dutch gambling monopoly as its representation. This seems counterintuitive to the statements by Cryptologic that they are staunch supporters of safe online gambling industries that are well regulated by government entities. The position may change when the company is in operation of a complete monopoly of the industry for the country of Holland.
The booming online gambling industry has seen a continued increase in registered members, as well as in the profits gained from the growing market. The potential for benefits for the technology in Holland being only provide by Cryptologic will block any other European software company from operating here with any success, or even legal permission.
It will be interesting to see how the Dutch government decides to handle such an issue with an Irish based software provider.
Bingo Winner From Penycae “Flabbergasted” After Her Big Win

At this point in time it is unclear as to whether the bingo operator was land-based or online, as no names have been released by the ASA.
