The College of Public Health at the University of Kentucky commissioned a study that has produced results showing that smoking bans have had very little effect on bingo halls financial results. Many charity events are held in bingo halls and attendance of these have not been affected. Sports teams regularly make use of bingo halls for fund raising events to help their operations.

The biggest contributing factor in the decrease of attendance at bingo halls has been the general economy. Unemployment and fuel prices are up and people do not have the same ready cash available to spend on visiting a bingo hall or other forms of entertainment. The price of fuel is also so prohibitive that people do not travel as much as they used to and keep it down to a level where they only travel when they really need to.

Although these conditions apply to the US, you have to look at it from a global perspective, the UK too has increased petrol prices and unemployment and this too could be a contributing factor to ailing bingo halls.
