Playing bingo is a pastime that has been loved by many people for a very long time. Unfortunately land based bingo has been hard hit by newly promulgated laws, that have not really allowed it to enjoy the freedom that it once enjoyed. However, this has not quelled the desire for people to play online bingo.
Essentially the new smoking laws (or should I say “non-smoking” laws) have hit home hard in the bingo industry. We also see factors such as unfair taxation in the UK that have impacted on the game of bingo. Other gaming activities have to pay 15% in gross profit taxes, while the bingo industry pays this, plus VAT.
We have seen a number of bingo hall closures over the past few years because of this problem. However the Government does not appear to be serious regarding addressing the problem. When a bingo club closes, people lose their jobs and another valuable social outlet is lost to communities. Playing bingo is enjoyed by many elderly and lonely people and when a club closes down, this is lost to them and unfortunately this is just how the cookie crumbles.
For people who have access to the internet, this problem does not come up. It is easy to access bingo online, and online bingo offers many more incentives that the land based game cannot offer. Prize money is good and the promotions are so competitive that anything from bingo bonus points to new cars may be won.
